ER - PAC representative says PALCO is laying bankruptcy groundwork

Local Solutions formed under the pretense of supporting local "Progressive" candidates. But their rhetoric and claims to fame on their website mirrored that of Salzman's so-called "Alliance for Ethical Business." Palco and Gallegos. Twombly, quoted in this story in the Eureka Reporter, is Salzman's communications director, handles all of the listserves, mass e-mailings for all of the shadow groups, all of the morphs of the AEB.

Another Pacific Lumber Co. critic has spoken out on PALCO’s claim that it could face dire economic ramifications if its timber harvest plans are not approved.

Michael Twombly, of the newly formed Local Solutions Political Action Committee, (www.localsolutions.org), said, "Mr. Manne is laying the PR groundwork for PL's bankruptcy strategy while Charles Hurwitz and MAXXAM walk away from Humboldt County with the proceeds."

Twombly said he is speaking as an individual because the Local Solutions board was not able to meet to approve his comments.

“This is one more example of the corporate piracy,” he said, “which has decimated local economies. … And the sad thing is, Mr. Hurwitz could care less what we think of him. His only concern is to protect himself. …

“Mr. Manne is trying to blame our last remaining redwoods and endangered watersheds for MAXXAM's own bad financial decisions and bankruptcy strategy. And we don't buy it.”

PALCO has timber harvest plans before the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, which will determine if it will approve or disprove them.

The plans have already been approved by the California Department of Fish and Game, California Department of Forestry, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries.

Yesterday, PALCO President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Manne said, “At PALCO, virtually all revenue comes from sales of lumber and other products produced from timber owned by our subsidiary, Scotia Pacific Co. LLC. This is why the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board should sign off on timber harvesting plans already approved by the California Department of Forestry and every other applicable state and federal regulatory agency. …”

If the plans are not approved, PALCO faces serious financial problems, Manne said.
