Alliance Demands Pacific Lumber Agree Not to Support Recall Campaign

Eureka, CA ‹ The Alliance for Ethical Business today demanded that Pacific
Lumber, a defendant in a fraud lawsuit filed by Humboldt County District
Attorney Paul Gallegos, promise not to support the recall effort being
organized against Gallegos.

"This recall campaign is sour grapes from Terry Farmer's operatives who
can't get over that they lost the election last year. And it's a slap in the
face of Humboldt County voters," said Richard Salzman, President of the
Alliance for Ethical Business, an association of county residents, property
owners and business owners working to stamp out fraud and attract more
investment and jobs to Humboldt County.

?Pacific Lumber is a defendant in a fraud case filed by Gallegos. It would
be highly unethical and perhaps even illegal for Pacific Lumber to support
this recall campaign in any way.?

Richard Salzman?s statement follows:

?Humboldt County is today faced with a serious choice: Will we be a county
that turns a blind eye to serious allegations of fraud and misconduct by the
wealthiest members of our community? Or will we be a county that enforces
the law equally and fairly so that businesses feel comfortable relocating
here and creating jobs for the county?

We can't grow our economy if we turn a blind eye to law-breaking by the
richest and most powerful members of our community. Few will want to move to
or invest in Humboldt County if they believe we have a 16th Century attitude
toward law enforcement, where the King and his princes don't have to follow
the same rules as you and me.

Humboldt is too grand a place to hand out special privileges to the rich and
powerful. For this reason the Alliance for Ethical Business applauds the
District Attorney for his grit in standing up to Maxxam/Pacific Lumber. He
has been true in his promise to enforce the law equally and fairly against
everyone -- from methamphetamine dealers to tree sitters to Pacific Lumber.

Paul Gallegos is a man of deep integrity and courage. He's doing exactly
what the people elected him to do: enforce the law. All of us - business
owners and employees, professors and students, retirees and property
owners - all have a stake in helping the DA make Humboldt County safe for
families and ethical business. Humboldt is a diverse county; it need not be
a divided one.

The recall effort is sour grapes from Terry Farmer?s operatives who still
resent that they lost the election last year. It?s a slap in the face of
Humboldt County voters. Pacific Lumber is a defendant in a fraud case filed
by Gallegos. It would be highly unethical and perhaps even illegal for
Pacific Lumber to support this recall campaign in any way.

The most important thing we can do to attract good jobs and investment to
Humboldt County is to work together to stand up against corporate fraud. The
Alliance for Ethical Business welcomes anyone who shares our twin values of
responsibility and community and our vision of a Humboldt County that grows
in ways that make it more beautiful and wealthier. We encourage residents
to visit us on our web site, www.timberyesfraudno.org to find out more about
our work and how to join in support.?
