Paul Gallegos is 'dangerously' soft on crime in the county
by Brandy Campbell, 4/16/2006
Dear Editor,
Now is the time to do the crime. I have lived in Humboldt County for 25 years. I have never seen the quality of life as poor in Humboldt County as it is now. There is no denying that marijuana and methamphetamine are running rampant in this county. There is also no denying that Gallegos is soft on marijuana-related crimes. (Don’t believe me? Talk to anyone who works in the criminal justice system) I guess that if you’re going to grow or sell marijuana it’s nice to have Gallegos as a safety net against any real punishment should you get caught.
However, let’s not forget about the hard-working, law-abiding, family-oriented percentage of people in Humboldt County. The people who are trying to raise children in a safe environment. The people who worry about justice and prosecution of sexual offenders and drug dealers. I would like to think that the law enforcement officers who worked hard and risked their lives to build a strong case against a suspect would not see that hard work thrown away with an overly lenient plea bargain.
And as a wife of one of these law enforcement officers, I would also like to think that there would be adequate punishment for the offender who would assault my husband while he was out doing his job protecting the citizens of this county.
I stand behind Worth Dikeman in the hopes that we will be rid of Gallegos and his dangerously soft stance on crime.
