Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney Amanda Penny will end her employment with the DA’s Office in the next couple of weeks, but why or where she is headed remains unclear.

In an e-mail, Penny said she was “wrapping up (her) employment” with the DA’s Office, but did not explain further.
Humboldt County Assistant District Attorney Wes Keat confirmed Penny was leaving.

“She is going, but the details of it are hers and I won’t feel comfortable publicizing them,” he said.

Penny will be the second loss to the office since the beginning of the year.

In mid-January, Shane Hauschild left the DA’s Office after less than a year to take a job at the Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

“It’s fairly typical here for folks to kind of learn the trade and move on,” Keat said when Hauschild left. “We’re one of the lowest-paid DA’s offices in the state.”

Jobs are available at the office, he said.

“We have been recruiting all along and interviewing, and that’s an ongoing process,” Keat said.
