DA Gallegos causes local divisiveness
5/16/2006
Dear Editor,
How can one person cause so much damage and divisiveness in our community? District Attorney Paul Gallegos has managed to alienate the public, law enforcement and even his own staff.
DA candidate Worth Dikeman captured 100 percent law enforcement endorsement. “They are union organizations,” Gallegos said.
At a May 9 press conference, reporters asked each agency to be polled; each stated that every single member of their respective associations was in support of Worth.
Gallegos stated he neither asked for nor wants law enforcement endorsement, saying, “All you have to do is look at the facts and see that their endorsement has nothing to do with public safety.”
I beg to differ: law enforcement sees that you (Gallegos) are not doing your job when it comes to public safety — a major reason they support Worth.
“I knew he would get them (law enforcement); I knew that was the only strength in his basket,” Gallegos said.
Worth has more going for him than you know.
Now you have gone overboard by saying that the Dikeman camp isn’t truthful. “Once again, Mr. Dikeman doesn’t feel the need to limit himself to the truth,” Gallegos said. “They have shown us through their conduct that they are more worried about their own interests than they are about public safety and the community.”
How dare you accuse Dikeman and his campaign of lying? How dare you accuse law enforcement of putting their “own interests” above public safety.
It is you who is not telling the truth and you know it. You say your job is to “police the police.” What am I missing here? You are the top law enforcement officer in this county. You carry a badge just as they do; you are their boss and you are law enforcement!
This county is not your sand box to play in any more. Let the true adult professionals clean up the mess you have created. Now go to your room!
