EUREKA -- Worth Dikeman, the deputy district attorney who is challenging his boss, District Attorney Paul Gallegos, Friday called on Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee Chairman Patrick Riggs to recuse himself from endorsing any candidate.

In a letter to the Democratic Central Committee, Dikeman said, "It is incomprehensible to me that this committee is considering endorsing one Democrat over another in the nonpartisan race for district attorney.

Both Gallegos and Dikeman are Democrats.

"As a spokesman for the Friends of Paul Gallegos, (Riggs) has been actively campaigning for Gallegos, both individually and through his political action committee Local Solutions (which lists as the top reason to join Local Solutions, 'Worth Dikeman may become your next district attorney.'"

Dikeman concluded, "I am asking you again, please do not endorse one Democrat to the detriment of another. Do not depart from historical precedent, If, however, you feel you must render an endorsement, I am the more qualified candidate."

Efforts to reach Riggs or the Humboldt Democratic Party for comment were unsuccessful.
