Arrest made in Eye Street robberies

A man suspected in two robberies on the same street within a week of each other was arrested by Arcata police Thursday.

The Arcata Police Department said Vincent Macias Ramirez Jr., 22, was arrested at a Lewis Court home.

”He was positively identified by at least two victims,” said Arcata Police Sgt. Ron Sligh.

APD Capt. Tom Chapman said Ramirez may have taken part in both of the robberies on Eye Street -- one on Jan. 8 and the other Jan. 15. In both cases, there were multiple robbers, and a shotgun was used. The investigation eventually led to Ramirez, Sligh said.

Inside the Lewis Court home, police reported finding a number of items that matched what robbery victims had described, as well as evidence of drug use and sales.

Sligh provided no details on the property found nor the types of drugs believed to be involved.
”We're hoping we can connect it to more people,” Sligh said.

The Jan. 15 robbery was a home invasion on the 2400 block of Eye Street.

Around 12:30 a.m., an assailant armed with a shotgun kicked in the door of the home and demanded money from a man inside. A man and a woman who were in another part of the house jumped out of a bedroom window when they heard the commotion -- only to find a second robber in the front yard.

When the two confronted the second robber, he pointed a handgun at them. The male victim was able to knock the handgun from the robber's grasp, and both assailants quickly fled.

The week before, on the 2300 block of Eye Street, just after 1:30 a.m., a man with a shotgun approached a person and demanded money. A second robber ordered a second victim, who was waiting in a nearby vehicle, to get out. He then took off in the car.

The first robber then jumped into a waiting Honda Civic. The getaway car had up to three other men inside. The victim's vehicle was found on the 1200 block of Q Street a short time later.
The Humboldt State University Police Department helped serve the warrant Thursday.

Three more arrested in Eye Street robbery
Arcata police have tracked down three more people believed to have participated in an armed robbery and carjacking that occurred on Eye Street on Jan. 8.

The Arcata Police Department said Michael Alan Coen, 28, of Fortuna, Jody Lee Aragon, 25, and Jason Luther Nelson, 21, both of Eureka, were recently arrested. The exact date of their arrest was not in the press release, and calls to APD were not immediately returned.

A warrant is being sought for another man, Alvin James Fogleman, 25, of Eureka, who is already in custody in San Quentin State Prison.

The first arrest in the case came within a couple weeks of the robbery, when Vincent Macias Ramirez Jr., 22, was arrested at a Lewis Court home.

Ramirez is scheduled to be in court Thursday for an intervention hearing.
